Bill Miller is an international authority on the subject of ocean liners; cruise ships, especially on the history of the golden age of passenger liners in NY Harbor. This includes those great ships of the past, those “floating palaces,” as well as the current generation of cruise ships, the “floating resorts”. Called “Mr. Ocean Liner,” he has written over 80 books on the subject.

Bill will share his expertise on the history of our docks and ships along Manhattan’s West Side and across the river in New Jersey. He will speak about many noted and famous passengers over the past 100 years as well as share personal stories from his travels on major ocean liners. Bill spends much of his time lecturing around the world.

Our 2-hour tour begins by passing around the southern tip of Manhattan and the large ferry terminals to Staten Island and Governors Island. We travel north up along the west side of Manhattan passing the Battery & Castle Clinton, then most of Hudson River Park, including historic ships, ferry terminals, fireboat terminals, historic Pier 57, Chelsea Piers, excursion boats, the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum and finally the passenger ship terminals.

We then cross over to the New Jersey side passing the historic Hoboken waterfront, scene of “On The Waterfront”, another active shipyard, Morris Canal entrance and finally, as all our tours do, we visit the Statue of Liberty for a moment before returning to Pier 16. Tickets are available here.

A portion of your ticket price goes to support Working Harbor Committee’s youth and senior programs. WHC hosts high school workshops on the wide array of career opportunities and training, on and around the working harbor. We also organize narrated harbor tours for residents of local Senior Centers – hosting over 800 seniors each year.
