John Skelson at his office on the Kill Van Kull. (Staten Island Advance/Ryan Lavis)

The Staten Island Advance published John Skelson’s obituary in the paper today. Beautifully written, with many tales of his accomplishments, his talent, and his family…

But this quote from his partner Phyllis really hit home – it encapsulates John’s spirit perfectly.

“He was a quiet, peaceful, happy man who lived his life doing exactly what he wanted to do,” said his partner of 30 years, Phyllis Featherstone. “He was a very talented photographer and artist and generously shared his knowledge with others. And he was loved and admired by many – his students, friends, comrades and family.”

Happy. Peaceful. Talented. Generous. Loved.
