Carrying 19,000 TEUs aboard, the mega-ship CSCL Indian Ocean has run aground in the Elbe River in Germany. En route to Hamburg, the containership hit a mudflat and hard grounded, causing part of the shipping traffic to shut down. Attempts to refloat the ship have not been successful.

Maritime News: The ultra large container ship CSCL Indian Ocean grounded in Elbe river near Grunendeich. The ship was en route from Felixtowe to Hamburg at low water, while having draft of 11.50 m. The vessel lost power, which caused the ship to hit a mud shallow and hard ground. The traffic on Elbe river is hampered, as large part of the shipping channel is closed by the container carrier.
