CORRECTION: The contract has not yet been awarded for the City-Wide Ferry Service. No final decision has been made yet.

The article published in Crains New York stating the contract had been awarded was NOT correct.

I stupidly thought they had their facts straight. I was wrong.

My apologies to New York Water Taxi, New York Waterway and Billybey.

Hornblower Cruises has been chosen to run the City-Wide Ferry Service.

Bidding has been ongoing since last year for the City-Wide Ferry Service contract, between California-based Hornblower, and a joint bid from 3 of local ferry companies –  Billybey, New York Waterway and New York Water Taxi.

Crains New York Business: After a drawn-out battle between ferry operators to run the city’s expanding water routes, the de Blasio administration has climbed aboard with Hornblower Cruises & Events, a new player on the local commuter-service scene.

According to people close to the process, the city’s Economic Development Corp. chose the luxury touring company over a combined bid from Billybey, New York Waterway and the Durst-owned New York Water Taxi,
which among them run the Hudson River and East River services. No formal announcement has been made.
