China-owned vessel Andronikos, will be the first ship to pass through the new Panama Canal Locks on opening day.

The Neopanamax vessel is 980 feet long, with a 9,400-TEU capacity and was built in 2015 to the expanded Panama Canal’s specifications.

Picked by lottery from the Panama Canal Authority’s 15 largest clients, the recently merged China Cosco Shipping Corporation’s Andronikos will make the inaugural crossing through the expanded locks from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, as part of the June 26th grand opening ceremonies.
