The US Coast Guard has established a new 200-yard safe zone around the super-crane Left Coast Lifter aka the I Lift NY. Requested by the New York State Thruway Authority, the safe zone is “to protect personnel, vessels and the marine environment from potential hazards“ and is expected to remain in place until the Tappan Zee Bridge project is completed in late 2018.
The new safe zone has been added to the existing boater-safety restrictions and requirements associated with the massive infrastructure project. Boaters should expect periodic partial closures of the main channel due to construction activities. Tune to Marine Radio Channel 22A for the latest U.S. Coast Guard advisories.
The expanded boater-safety restrictions/requirements can be found on the NewNYBridge website – check back often for continued updates.
