Passengers aboard the Staten Island ferry won’t be able to charge their laptops and phone onboard anymore. Power to the electrical outlets on the ferry boats has been cut after several outbreaks of violence among passengers.
The Department of Transportation did not make an official announcement, prior to shutting the power off. DOT spokesman Scott Gastel told the New York Post that the change was a “public-safety decision“.
The plug was pulled after a ferry employee was punched when trying to break up a fight between 2 irate passengers. The worker remains on medical leave.
