Would you like to see the Staten Island ferry cruise up the East River with additional stops at Pier 11 and/or E. 34th Street?
Last week, the DOT agreed to study the feasibility of creating new Manhattan stops for the big orange boat. First proposed by Staten Island Borough President James Oddo last April in a letter to Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, the plan would likely require significant modifications to existing terminals, as well as new vessels able to dock at Pier 11 or E. 34th St.
“This could be an exciting opportunity,” Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg wrote to Oddo in the July 28 letter. “But I agree with you that there are many hurdles that need to be analyzed including the need for additional new ferries and significant upgrades to the current terminal infrastructure.”
