Vane Brothers has taken delivery of a new tug! (shout-out, Capt. Birk!) Fort McHenry is a Sassafras Class tug, newly built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland. This is the 12th tugboat built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding for Vane Brothers, with 5 more on the way.

Tug Fort McHenry features twin Caterpillar 3512 engines and a single-drum JonRie hydraulic towing winch. Her name pays homage to the Baltimore-based fort that was instrumental in America’s defense against the British during the War of 1812, and inspired the writing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

I’m not sure but hopefully, she is headed to ply our waters – and if she is, I hope she can come join in the WHC Tugboat Race this year. (Sept. 4th!)
