The US Coast Guard has ordered 39 Response Boats-Small II (RB-S IIs) from Metal Shark Aluminum Boats for $15 million that will be delivered over the next year. The new vessels will replace the RB-S boats that are reaching the end of their ten-year long service lives.
Announced on 8 August, 2016, the boats will be produced and delivered through to July 2017. Of the 263 ordered by the coast guard, 204 have already been delivered.
The RB-S II is a 29 foot high-speed vessel that can be deployed for missions such as, port security, law enforcement, and search and rescue.
