This Saturday, 17 September, 2016, the SS John W Brown will be operating steam all day! Open for ships tours everyday from 10 am – 4 pm, and on Saturday, visitors will have the extra treat of seeing her 14 ton triple-expansion steam engine at work.

SS John W Brown is one of two Liberty Ships that remain today. Launched in 1942, she was one of over 2,700 Liberty Ships built to transport troops and supplies during WWII. After the war, SS John W Brown became a floating high school for maritime training, right here in NYC.

Our friends at LILAC Preservation Project sent over some very exciting news to share!

For the first time since 1994, the Liberty Ship JOHN W. BROWN will be visiting our shining harbor from 9-19 September! The ship will be berthed at the Pier 36 East River, 299 South Street at foot of Montgomery Street and will host ships tours, a history cruise and more!

The S.S. JOHN W. BROWN, one of the last operating survivors from the great fleet of over 2,700 Liberty Ships and the last operational troopship of World War II. Tour the engine room, crew quarters, bridge, messrooms, troop berthing, museum spaces and the magnificent 140-ton triple-expansion steam engine and much more!
