The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a request for proposals (PDF download) – calling for a 30-year master plan for the Port of NY/NJ to help boost cargo volumes and revenues.
With sights set on surpassing the ports of LA and Long Beach to become the nation’s top import and export facility, the PA aims to make our port more attractive to large ships by configuring port facilities to handle increasing volumes with maximum efficiency.
In 2015, port terminals in NY/NJ handled 6.4 million TEUs compared to Long Beach’s 7.2 million and 8.2 million TEUs handled by Los Angeles.
